Anxiety & Panic
Persistent worry, panic attacks, and social anxiety can feel overwhelming. CBT gives you practical tools to break the cycle — for good.
CBT Cardiff provides specialist Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and EMDR for anxiety, PTSD, depression, OCD, and more. Our accredited therapists have over 10 years of NHS and private practice experience.

how we help
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is organised over an agreed number of sessions.
The number of sessions required will differ depending on the nature and severity of a client's presenting problem. Typically, sessions are weekly/fortnightly, last up to an hour and take place over a period of between 4 to 12 sessions (but this can be significantly shorter or longer).
Research into CBT has been carried out extensively over the last 40 years. This has shown it to be an effective form of psychotherapy, particularly for the following:
Persistent worry, panic attacks, and social anxiety can feel overwhelming. CBT gives you practical tools to break the cycle — for good.
Traumatic experiences leave deep marks. Our EMDR and trauma-focused CBT approaches are clinically proven to help you process and move forward.
When life loses its colour, CBT helps you challenge the thought patterns that keep you stuck and rebuild a sense of meaning and motivation.
Obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours are exhausting. Our evidence-based ERP and CBT approach can help you reclaim your freedom.
Whether it's heights, social situations, or something else entirely, targeted CBT can help you face your fears and live without limits.
Work pressure, life transitions, and chronic stress take a toll. We help you build resilience and recalibrate before things reach breaking point.
Growing up can bring emotional, behavioural, and social challenges. CBT can help children and young people develop healthy coping skills, build confidence, and improve their wellbeing.
Living with persistent pain can affect every aspect of daily life. CBT can help you develop practical strategies to manage pain, reduce distress, and improve your quality of life.
Breaking free from substance misuse can be challenging. CBT provides practical tools to manage cravings, overcome triggers, and support long-term recovery.

emdr
EMDR is an acronym for ‘Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing’. EMDR is a powerful psychological treatment method that was developed by an American clinical psychologist, Dr Francine Shapiro, in the 1980s. EMDR helps the individual look at memories of their trauma (including all negative thoughts, feelings and sensations experienced at the time of the event).
EMDR aims to change how we feel about these memories and helps you to have more positive emotions, behaviour and thoughts, as they are stored into long term storage.

These include psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural, interpersonal, experiential, and body-centred therapies.
EMDR is recommended in several treatment guidelines for PTSD around the world including the UK. All our CBT Cardiff psychological therapists have attended EMDR training from accredited EMDR trainers. Several EMDR therapists are EMDR UK and Ireland accredited practitioners.

Client Stories
These are the words of individuals who came to us, some at their lowest point. Many left with their lives transformed, having reach their desired goals and able to thrive again.
“I was in an accident 6 years ago that resulted in me receiving a brain injury which nearly cost my life. Since then I have gone through many feeling and emotions: scared, loss of confidence, no motivation, lack of confidence and many other thoughts and feelings…
“I can honestly say being referred to CBT Cardiff has set me free from a psychological disease that has been eating away at me for well over a decade. I thought for a long time the only way I could escape it would be when I die, and thought…
“I was a front seat passenger when another car crashed into my side of our car causing it to be a right off. I was frightened and shocked at the bump, noise and suddenness of the incident…
“Initially I was sent to see my therapist by my employer, so before I got there, I felt angry and suspicious. Even though I knew things weren’t right for me and I needed some kind of help, I couldn’t seem to join the dots to see the complete picture.
